NC Sen. Kay Hagan Educates Charlotte Students While at DNC
Joining London Fletcher of the NFL, Janet Cowell and Visa to showcase Financial Football, Hagan keeps a busy schedule during her 2012 DNC visit.
U.S. Senator Kay Hagan today joined Charlotte resident and Redskins Linebacker London Fletcher, State Treasurer Janet Cowell and Visa Inc. to showcase an educational video game and classroom curriculum called Financial Football. See the video footage here.
“To get by in today’s economy, it is imperative that our students and young people know how to make smart financial decisions,” Hagan said. “That is why the first piece of legislation I introduced in the Senate was to promote financial literacy in our schools. Financial Football is another valuable tool that helps both students and adults plan for a better financial future.”
As a North Carolina state senator, Hagan authorized legislation that incorporated financial literacy into the North Carolina high school curriculum. Hagan's first bill in the U.S. Senate was the Financial Literacy for Students Act, which she is working to include in education reform. The legislation creates incentive grants for states to incorporate financial literacy into their curriculums for grades 6-12.

"Our Veterans are important to us - North Carolina is home to so many Veterans and we want to be there to support them all the way," said Hagan. "Tonight the first lady and Dr. Jill Biden will be speaking about what they have done for our military families and how important that is, and that we need to have all communities reach out to Veterans and their families as well as Active Duty military."
