Sick Juror Delays Friday Morning Court-Martial for Sgt. Adam Holcomb

An early lunch recess was granted to all Friday morning to determine the state of an ill panel member.

Military Judge Maj. Bret Bartdorff granted an early recess around 10a.m. on  the fourth morning of the court-martial of Sgt. Adam Holcomb after a juror member was feeling ill. Holcomb is facing court martial in connection with the death of Pvt. Danny Chen in Afghanistan Oct. 3, 2011.

The 10-member panel, witnesses and legal teams were instructed to return at 1p.m. to determine if the court-martial could continue.

Without alternate jurors, there is no one to replace the ill panel member. One-third of the panel members must consist of enlisted members, so the rank of the sick panel member could very well be a factor if the case will go forward today. It is rumored that the panel member has flu-like symptoms.

The case is expected to continue through Saturday, but nothing official has been announced.
