TECH TRENDS: The New iPhone 5 Spoiler Alert

Last week the popular site, Mashable.com was speculating on if there was an iPhone 5 being tested out on the streets of London during the 2012 Olympic games.

Without question, Apple has upped the ante carefully safeguarding any spoilers about the iPhone 5, making Apple fans even more hungry for any information they can get their hands on.

When will consumers get a peek at the the new iPhone model? According to the blog iMore, Apple is expected to debut the new device alongside the the iPad mini and the new iPod nano on Sept. 12 at a special event, with a retail sale date of Sept. 21.

Though Apple has not revealed specifications or features, techie blogs and experts are speculating that the new model might include:

• · 4G/LTE support – According the AT&T documents leaked by LulzSec, the Apple iPhone 5 will offer 4G and will be LTE (Long Term Evolution) network compatible. LTE is a project of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), and is the latest standard in the mobile network technology.

• · Scratch proof and shatter proof screen
• · Wireless sync with iTunes
• · Extended battery life
• · Flash support
• · SIM-Less Phone – According to International Business Times, it is rumoured that the iPhone 5 will feature a new SIM-less design with 2 to 3 internal antennas for CDMA and GSM compatibility, which will make it a “worldphone”.

• · Increased Ram (from 512MB to 1GB)

A jump in eBay's Instant Sale program has seen a large jump in smartphone owners currently listing their phones in preparation for their next big Apple purchase. Last year within days of the iPhone 4 release in October, 89% of the listed items were iPhones.
