The Advising Fair is a one-stop-shop to prepare students for fall 2022 class registration. Faculty from academic departments across the College will be available to discuss what classes are available this fall. They'll also answer questions about majors and requirements, and they'll share opportunities to be offered in the near future.

Staff from offices including the Registrar, Financial Aid, and Student Accounts will also be available. Students can ask questions about their accounts, such as about holds that may prevent them from registering. Additionally, Housing and Residential Education and Health Services will be present.

Guilford Guides will be on hand to discuss the registration process and provide quick tips on finding classes.

"We'll also be encouraging students to schedule advising appointments with their Guide or their faculty adviser as early as possible," says Guilford Guide Jose Jacobo.

The Advising Fair is especially beneficial for sophomores. It's a chance for them to meet face to face with faculty and talk to them about their advising styles, interest areas, and opportunities within their fields. Knowing these things help students make an informed decision on who they want as their faculty adviser. That happens during Reflection Seminar 2, when second-semester sophomores are given the opportunity to name the faculty member they want to advise them for the next two academic years.

"Developing a connection and strong relationship with a faculty adviser is an important step toward developing professional contacts, receiving academic support, and gaining insight into a department," Jose says.

In addition to the Advising Fair, first-year students and sophomores will meet with their Guides in the coming weeks to get 1:1 help in planning their course schedules. These longer meetings are required to make sure students are getting comprehensive academic advising to put together their best schedule possible. Juniors and seniors will meet with their faculty advisers.

All students are encouraged to attend. Faculty and staff look forward to seeing them there!
