• As traffic issues worsen in Hampstead, here's what NCDOT is doing (starnewsonline.com subscription) — Heavy congestion on U.S. 17 through Hampstead has pushed NCDOT to build the Hampstead Bypass and plan a median-divided upgrade of the highway, with the first bypass segment expected by summer 2027. State engineers say these projects should ease rush-hour backups but won’t solve everything, urging residents to stay patient as construction and smaller signal-timing tweaks continue.
