Gun Found At North Meck High: 19th Gun Found In CMS This Year

HUNTERSVILLE, NC — A firearm was discovered at North Mecklenburg High School Thursday, according to high school principal Stephanie Hood.

Hood said police were called and the gun was confiscated without incident. All students are safe.

The student who had the firearm will be disciplined.

This is the 19th firearm discovered in CMS schools just this semester. For comparison, in the 18'-19' academic year, 22 guns were discovered all year.

To mitigate the rising cases of firearms discovered on campuses, CMS has ordered clear backpacks for high school students.

The backpacks will arrive in February due to supply chain issues. Parents though, are concerned that's not enough to combat the ongoing issue.
