The Dare County Tourism Board awarded a total of $1.77 million to 12 local projects, backing paths, safety upgrades, and restorations that will shape how residents and visitors move around the Outer Banks.

• Teen suspect in Avalon Pier murder released on bond (wtvr.com) — A teen suspect charged as an accessory in the Avalon Pier shooting in Kill Devil Hills has been released on a $500,000 secured bond with ankle monitoring while awaiting trial. Prosecutors say three young suspects face first-degree murder charges in the July killing of 19-year-old Zane Hughes, and a Dare County judge recently backed the district attorney in a dispute with the victim’s mother over access to case information.

(thecoastlandtimes.com) — A longtime Kill Devil Hills resident, John Manoli, just marked an extraordinary milestone: his 100th birthday, celebrated at home with family and friends on December 3. Born in Boston and a World War II Navy aircraft mechanic, he later built his own house in Kill Devil Hills and enjoyed a long marriage to his late wife, Mary, while working a variety of civil service and private-sector jobs.
