- Piedmont Animal Rescue in Mooresville has been forced to close, reportedly due to lack of funding. According to a Fox46.com article, "leaders (of the rescue) cited a major uptick in animal surrenders and a drastic decrease in adoptions over the summer months due to vacations. The center also cited economic uncertainty as a reason for donations being down at the moment. The non-profit rescue center said the closure is temporary and is closed until further notice. Donations can be made on the rescue center’s website. "(Fox46.com)
- According to an article on Benzinger, "this year, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts another storm uptick. Along with the expensive damage and devastation that hurricanes leave behind, the wreckage caused by these natural disasters displaces a host of animals and pests. In need of food and shelter, rodents, ants, cockroaches, spiders and mosquitoes attempt to seek refuge in homes with structural damage and moisture, as well as backyards with standing water. EarthKind®, makers of naturally smarter® plant-based pest prevention products, provides guidelines on preparing homes against displaced critters during this hurricane season." (Benzinga)
