Here are the top three stories in Mooresville today:
- The town of Mooresville Youth Council (MYC) is seeking a local artist to create a design to paint on a steel butterfly bench that will be installed in Liberty Park. In an effort to reduce the stigma around mental health MYC is creating a bench where individuals can find respite and strength. The bench will represent mental health awareness in some distinguishable form while being inclusive and with no elements that may be considered offensive. The artist that is selected to paint the bench will be awarded $500 for all time spent on design and painting of the bench. This artist call is open to emerging and professional artists, both working independently and/or with a team, within Iredell County, North Carolina. This can be anyone from a student to an experienced artist. It is suggested that applicants have experience working with paint. Application requirements include a statement of interest (no more than 300 words | PDF format), images of past work (optional, but recommended), a description of project idea for Liberty Park Mental Health Awareness Bench including art design (no more than 600 words and must include at least a drawing/sketch of each surface of the bench (front, back, and seat in a PDF format). The deadline for submissions is April 5 at 5 PM. All application requirements must be submitted at one time through email to Jane Crosby, advisor to the MYC, at jcrosby@mooresvillenc.gov. The selection panel consists of all submissions to be reviewed by the MYC executive board. Voting will take place on April 11. The announcement of the chosen artist will be on April 14 and the painting period with be from April 17 through May 31. (Town of Mooresville)
- Complete with her canine partner, Tito, Iredell County Sheriffβs Office Deputy Jaime Welborn has been promoted to youth program education deputy and canine handler. The duo is now tasked with bringing the Iredell County Sheriffβs Office Youth Education Mobile Classroom into the community and area schools to provide information about prescription and illegal drugs, gang activity and technology safety. Congratulation Jaime! Say hello when you see her and Tito out and about! (Mooresville Tribune)
- Do you have extra, important documents such as doctor paperwork, tax forms, bills with personal information, bank statements and credit cards bills piling up because you don't know what to do with them? All of this and more should be shredded to protect your identity! You can do so on April 15 at the Mooresville Police Department (2847 Charlotte Highway). The annual Shredding Event runs from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of the Police Department. See you there! (Mooresville Police Department via Facebook)
