Boat Safety Check: Iredell Deputies Found These Violations

Iredell County Sheriff's Office recently conducted a boat safety check at Stumpy Creek boat landing and found these violations.

MOORESVILLE, NC — A recent boat safety check of 20 vessels at a Mooresville boat landing over the holiday weekend found numerous safety equipment and registration violations, the Iredell County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the pre-launch boat inspections are free, voluntary and "are not conducted to issue citations or take other enforcement action." Deputies also provide boaters with a sticker for the boat to verify it has been through a safety inspection and successfully passed.

Deputies from ICSO's Lake Enforcement Unit conducted the boat safety check midday July 3 at Stumpy Creek Access Area off Perth Road in Mooresville. During the 90-minute check, deputies inspected 14 boats and six personal watercraft.

Of those inspected, violations included nine safety equipment violations and two registration violations.

"Deputies were able to give out life jackets, whistles and Type 4 'throw-able cushions' to correct five of the violations," ICSO said in a statement. "The most common equipment violations were fire extinguishers."
