Here are the top three stories in Mooresville today:

  1. Tuesday morning was a scary one for Mooresville High School students, parents and the community at large as an automated message conveying a potential bomb threat was received by the school. According to the Town Mooresville Facebook page, "school officials immediately alerted the attending School Resource Officer and Mooresville Police Department (MPD). The facilities were immediately evacuated. Iredell County bomb-trained K9s were brought in at 10:15 a.m. Due to the length of time needed to adequately clear the building, the decision was made to dismiss MHS. Dismissal and reunification were complete at 11:16 a.m. Law enforcement cleared the facilities at 1:04 p.m. finding no evidence of explosive devices. Due to recent similar incidents in surrounding counties, MPD will continue to investigate and work with local agencies to ascertain if the incidents are connected." (Town of Mooresville via Facebook)
  2. Racing fans mark your calendars! On Tuesday, October 4 the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame and the Town of Mooresville will present, “The Mooresville Motorsports Celebration.” Indy Car Champion Rick Mears and Drag Racing's Doug Herbert will be honored. There will be a presentation of in-ground plaques at the Mooresville Walk of Fame in front of the Charles Mack Citizens Center. According to a Mooresville Chamber of Commerce Facebook page post, '“This year’s celebration is going to be very special,” said Don Miller, chairman of the Board of Directors of the NC Auto Racing Hall of Fame. “We will be celebrating our 28th year of honoring the finest drivers in all of motorsports and the Walk of Fame expands its role for the 13th year. Mooresville is the absolute center of racing and the home of many of its famous personalities. We need to preserve this heritage.”'(Mooresville Chamber of Commerce via Facebook)
  3. Exciting news could be on its way to North Carolina as the state has made a pitch to host the 2027 World University Games. According to the Mooresville Tribune, "the committee evaluating the state’s bid visited the region. A panel of the International University Sports Federation visited on Tuesday the Executive Mansion, where Gov. Roy Cooper presented its members with an official bid book. The other finalist is Chungcheong province, South Korea. A final announcement is expected in November. North Carolina’s proposal would cover the “University Hub” region designated as including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary and Greensboro. There are more than 130 colleges, universities and community colleges statewide. The summer World University Games attracts 7,000 athletes from ages 18 to 25 from over 150 countries and more than 600 universities. The nearly two-week event features 15 required sports, including swimming, track and field and basketball, as well as optional sports proposed by the local host city." Keep your fingers crossed for N.C. (Mooresville Tribune)
