Here are the top four stories today in Mooresville:
- There's a new mayor in town — well dog mayor that is. The Mooresville Youth Council announced the newly elected 2022 Dog Mayor is the Honorable Buttercup! The outgoing Dog Mayor, the Honorable Daisy, was Mooresville’s first-ever dog mayor who was elected last year as part of an educational lesson about government at the Rocky River Elementary School. Third graders who were learning about how local government works reached out to Mayor Atkins about the possibility of electing a dog mayor for the Town of Mooresville. Daisy reportedly did a great job as the premier dog mayor and Buttercup, who received 4,000 votes on the Mooresville Youth Council Instagram page dog mayor competition, is excited about her new position in town. Congratulations Buttercup! (Town of Mooresville NC via Facebook)
- According to an article in Motor 1, "The Toyota GR86 will go racing in the United States in 2023 as part of the newly launched GR Cup. The one-make racing series will consist of 14 events at seven tracks across the country. Toyota Racing Development (TRD) will build the GR86 Cup cars at its facility in Mooresville. The modifications will include Bosch engine management, a Borla exhaust, 22-gallon fuel cell, SADEV six-speed sequential gearbox, Alcon brakes, JRI adjustable shocks and Toyota Gazoo Racing-designed struts. The body will have a Gazoo-built front splitter, vented hood, carbon-fiber rear wing and other tweaks. Inside, there will be OMP safety equipment and a roll cage." It's time to go the races! - The 2022 Carolina Brotherhood Memorial Ride (which began in 2012) will kick off this year on Monday, June 20, at 7 a.m. at 215 N. Main Street in Mooresville. There are reportedly 50 total riders who will be pedaling to honor fallen Public Safety workers who were lost in the line of duty in 2019 and 2020. This includes 16 firefighters, 29 police officers and five K9s. Reportedly, Sergeant Tim Taylor will represent Mooresville Police Department for this year’s ride. (Iredell Free News)
