Here are the top three stories in Mooresville today:
- It's a sad time for the Mooresville Fire-Rescue as they have lost one of their own. A recent Facebook post on their page read, "It is with a heavy heart that we regret to inform our community that Captain Brian Yon has succumbed to his illness and passed away at Atrium Main in Charlotte [Thursday] afternoon. Capt. Yon served with Mooresville-Fire Rescue since July 1, 2007. No arrangements have been made at this time, and we will announce as soon as we know details. Please keep the Yon family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time." (Town of Mooresville via Facebook)
- Changes to ordinances in Iredell County have been made involving animals. According to a Record & Landmark article, "the Iredell County Board of Commissioners moved forward with changes to ordinances involving animals on Tuesday night. Changes made were to define what constitutes adequate shelter, which includes dry bedding for the animals. Areas underneath outside steps, decks and stoops, inside vehicles, underneath vehicles, buildings without proper ventilation, and metal barrels won’t constitute adequate shelter. Another was to define rules on how animals are tethered, limiting it to 30 minutes if the animal doesn’t have access to adequate shelter. How the county handles dogs considered dangerous was clarified, as a dog given the potentially dangerous dog label after an incident can have the label removed if it does not have any reported violations for 36 consecutive months. The owner would have to submit an appeal to animal services to have the label removed." (Statesville Record & Landmark)
- Doing their part to keep the residents of Mooresville safe, the Mooresville Police Department has made an arrest in a breaking and entering firearm larceny incident. According to a MPD Facebook post, "in early October 2022, Mooresville Police Department (MPD) Officers took a report from a Mooresville resident for a breaking and entering of a motor vehicle in which a handgun and other items were stolen. MPD’s Criminal Investigations Unit began an investigation and learned that after being stolen from the motor vehicle, the firearm had been sold to a subject who was a convicted felon. A search warrant was obtained for the subject’s residence in the Stonecreek Apartments off of Timber Road. On October 18, 2022, the search warrant was executed by members of the MPD Criminal Investigations and Narcotics Units at 150-6 JC Circle. As a result of the search warrant, Detectives recovered the stolen firearm along with another firearm. Detectives also seized 30 grams of cocaine, 80 grams of marijuana, 11 grams of methamphetamine, and $1,963 U.S. Currency inside of the residence. Jesse Calvin Williamson, Jr. of Mooresville was arrested and charged with (F) Possession of a Stolen Firearm, (F) Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon, (F) Trafficking Cocaine, (F) PWISD Cocaine, (F) PWISD Methamphetamine, (F) PWISD Marijuana, (F) Felony Maintaining a Dwelling, and (M) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Williamson was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $175,000 secured bond." (Mooresville Police Department via Facebook)
