Here are the top three stories today in Mooresville:
- The Mooresville Police Department (MPD) congratulated Doctor Latasha Watts and MPD Officer for recently receiving her Doctorate of Education degree in Community Care and Counseling with a focus in Traumatology from Liberty University. Dr. Watts also holds the mental health licensures of QMHP (Qualified Mental Health Professional) and LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker). She plays a vital role at MPD as the Training & Recruiting Officer in MPD’s Administrative Division. Dr. Watts has also worked with the Mecklenburg County Mobile Crisis Team for over 10 years, responding to mental health, substance abuse, and crisis calls within the community setting. In addition, she has also worked in group homes, psychiatric hospital settings, and wilderness residential treatment facilities for at-risk youth and is a licensed foster parent and has fostered many youth in the past seven years." MPD said in a Facebook post, "Thank you for all the ways you serve the local community, Dr. Watts! MPD is lucky to have you on the force!" (Mooresville Police Department via Facebook)
- According to a Facebook post from the Mooresville Police Department, "On June 26, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Mooresville Police Department (MPD) officers responded to multiple calls of shots fired in the area of Logan Street and Brookwood Street. Several callers reported that their houses or vehicles had been hit by gunshots. Officers arrived on scene and located numerous shell casings of different calibers scattered in the roadway along Logan Street. While officers were on Logan Street, MPD received a call of an individual suffering from a gunshot wound at a residence in the Piedmont Point Apartments. Officers learned that the individual at Piedmont Point suffered a gunshot wound during the incident on Logan Street. This individual was transported to an area hospital for treatment and is expected to recover. Based on the investigation of the incident, MPD detectives have thus far made two arrests of individuals involved in the shooting. Jaylon Edmond Westbrook, 19, of Sherrills Ford was charged with felony (F) discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling and (F) possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Westbrook was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under no bond due to the seriousness of the charges and to currently being on probation/parole for other felony convictions. Anazi Nykeem Quiller, 18, of Mooresville was charged with (F) discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling and placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $150,000 secured bond. This investigation is continuing, and more arrests are expected." (Mooresville Police Department via Facebook)
