Here are the top three stories in Mooresville today:

  1. Enforcing safety and making sure that everyone has a fun and exciting weekend the North Carolina Highway Patrol, N.C. Wildlife Commission and the Mooresville Police Department announced the start of a pair of public safety initiatives; “Operation Dry Water,” a national safety initiative, and “Operation Firecracker” put in place by the state of North Carolina. According to the Mooresville Tribune, '“officers will be targeting highways and waterways in the area of N.C. Highway 150,” Master Trooper Jeffrey Swagger of the N.C. Highway Patrol said. “Officers will be aggressively enforcing violations of impaired driving, boating while impaired, and other applicable laws.”' (Mooresville Tribune)
  2. Downtown Mooresville may be getting more housing soon. At its July 5 meeting, the Mooresville Board of Commissioners will consider a downtown development project agreement for Lansing Melbourne Group to lead the remake of a town-owned site. According to WSOC Charlotte, "Town documents show the redevelopment project calls for 150 apartments, 3,000 square feet of retail space and a 400-space parking deck at a 1.8-acre site between Moore and Center avenues and Church Street."   3. On July 7, from 7-8:30 p.m. Carolina Caring is hosting Linking Hearts, a caring and supportive space for parents to come together for empathy, understanding and hope. The support group will be held virtually on Zoom. It will continue to meet the first Thursday of every month. According to the Mooresville Tribune, "Registration is required.   • Mooresville Police Department: "Ella says, "Make sures fur babies like me are wearing ID tags, and keeps us indoors to keeps us safes during boom boom fireworks!" Fireworks can be scary for pets! Pets are more sensitive to loud noises, flashing lights, and strong smells. Make sure your pets are wearing ID tags and, if possible, are kept inside during fireworks displays so they do not get lost trying to escape the unfamiliar situation."
