Here are the top stories today in Mooresville:
- The beautiful mural, along N. Church Street in Downtown Mooresville, is finished! According to a Facebook post on Town of Mooresville page, the Muralist Sydney Duarte and Treazy Treaz spent several weeks painting the mural to commemorate the Town’s sesquicentennial. Do you know what each piece of the mural means and how it celebrates the Town’s 150th anniversary? Flowing water: Represents the large natural well that originally drew people to the area. Additionally, it represents the flow of time, from the start of the Town to its present moment and the future. • Train: Represents the movement and energy the Town had when creating trade, prosperity, and growth. • Fabric Mill, Spindles, and Denim Patches: Represent the stitches in time that brought life to Mooresville. • Race Car: Represents “Race City USA” with Mooresville home to more than 60 NASCAR teams and racing-related businesses. • Race Flag: Represents Mooresville crossing the 150th year line. • Dime: Honors Mooresville artist Selma Burke, who won a competition to sculpt President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Her portrait of Roosevelt graces the dime. • Wildflowers and Animals: Native to North Carolina, these elements remind us that it’s our role to preserve Mother Nature for our future. • Fireworks: Celebrate how far the Town of Mooresville has come and the excitement for the Town’s future. How many did you get right?" (Town of Mooresville NC via Facebook)
- According to Sportscasting, "The three drivers in contention for top rookie honors — Austin Cindric, Harrison Burton, and Todd Gilliland — were all proven winners in either the NASCAR Xfinity Series or the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, which are NASCAR’s No. 2 and No. 3 division, respectively. But instead of the hotly contested, down-to-the-wire rookie race that many anticipated, Cindric rode off into the proverbial sunset, leaving no doubt about who was tops among the Cup Series’ crop of talented newcomers. Cindric promptly went out and won the Daytona 500 in just his eighth career Cup Series start. Cindric managed to secure seven more top-10 finishes — including four more top-fives — by the time the regular season concluded back at Daytona in late August. (Sportscasting)
