Free At-Home COVID-19 Vaccinations Offered In Iredell, Across NC

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — North Carolina residents with limited mobility who are unable to leave their home will now be able to get a COVID-19 vaccination at home, state public health officials said.

The new statewide vaccination initiative comes as health officials attempt to increase vaccination rates across the state. As of July 21, at least 60 percent of adults in the state had received at least one dose of vaccine, while 56 percent of adults were considered fully vaccinated.

In Iredell County, 40 percent of the adults in the county had received one dose of vaccine and 39 percent were considered fully vaccinated. The county has seen a significant uptick in cases recently, with 193 new COVID-19 cases reported in the last 14 days, 112 of which were reported in the past week.

"There is increasing urgency for people to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as the highly contagious Delta variant is rapidly spreading in North Carolina," the state's Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement.

Through the new at-home vaccination initiative, which is a partnership between NCDHHS and Piedmont Triad Regional Council Area Agency on Aging, free COVID-19 vaccinations may be scheduled by individuals, as well as caregivers and providers.

"COVID-19 vaccination offers the best protection against hospitalization and death to people who are dealing with serious health issues at home," NCDHHS Secretary Mandy Cohen said in a statement. "Nearly all COVID-19 hospitalizations are among the unvaccinated, and even those who stay home can become infected."
