Here are the top three stories in Mooresville today:

  1. Do you have prescription drugs that you need to dispose of? On October 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cannon Pharmacy, 521 E. Plaza Drive, the Mooresville Police Department will be holding a drug takeback as part of the US Drug Enforcement Agency’s National Take-Back Day. According to the Mooresville Tribune, "this initiative is designed to help the public prevent prescription drug abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs and syringes. The public can bring personal prescription medications and syringes for disposal at Cannon Pharmacy on Oct. 29 or drop them off at the Mooresville Police Department’s drug drop box at 2487 Charlotte Highway 24 hours a day.(Mooresville Tribune)
  2. On Friday, a utility worker was reportedly struck on Highway 150 at Perth Road in Mooresville and seriously injured. It was a hit and run accident. According to police, the vehicle that hit him was a white Dodge Ram flatbed dually truck that left the scene, police said. According to wscotv.com, "The driver of the truck, Andrew Terry, 18, of Georgia, was identified, arrested and charged. Terry ran off the road in the marked work zone and struck the worker. Several other workers were almost hit by the truck as well. Witnesses took pictures of the truck’s tag and the business name and phone number on the side of the truck, police said. Officers contacted the business and spoke with Terry, who returned to the scene. Terry was charged with felony hit-and-run involving injury and failure to maintain lane control, and was taken to the Iredell County Jail under a $1,000 secured bond. The utility worker has a serious leg injury but is expected to recover."(wsoctv.com)
  3. Would you like to become an Extension Master Gardener volunteer? According to the Mooresville Tribune, "classes cover topics in botany, soils, flowers, trees, shrubs, lawns, vegetables, fruits, entomology, pesticide safety and diagnosing plant problems. Following the course, you will enjoy volunteering in the community by working with local Iredell Extension Master Gardener volunteers on a variety of projects that educate the public about gardening and horticulture. Attend one of two interest meetings to learn more about the program, ask questions and to sign up. Sessions will be in Mooresville on Oct. 19 from 1-3 p.m. at the Mooresville Public Library, 304 S.
