Here are the top three stories in Mooresville today:

  1. According to WGHP Fox 8 Greensboro, "North Carolina Govenor Roy Cooper said, "Hurricane Ian is at our door. We expect drenching rain and sustained heavy winds over most of our state. Our message today is simple: Be smart and be safe.” The governor warned that North Carolinians should stay off of the roads during the storm. If you must go out, the governor warns not to drive through water. North Carolina declared a State of Emergency on Wednesday, which is ongoing. The State of Emergency makes the state eligible for federal reimbursement for certain expenditures related to the storm. In 25 counties, local emergency operation centers have opened or are partially activated, 12 of which have local States of Emergency in place. The North Carolina National Guard has mobilized multiple force packages to support emergency response. Personnel and vehicles are at pre-stages in Asheville, Wilkesboro, Conover, Burlington, Greensboro and Mooresville, according to Emergency Management Director William Ray." (WGHP FOX8 Greensboro)
  2. Mooresville's own Nick Hoffman recently met with doctors for an update after his traffic accident earlier this month, which took place while he was traveling from North Carolina to the Midwest. According to stlracing.com Hoffman said, “Luckily everything last weekend went well, and I didn’t have any issues. Physically I feel pretty good. I’m able to work every day and do all normal activities. I will continue to see the neurologist once a week until I am healed and get the green light to go back racing.” (stlracing.com)
  3. There are several new North Carolina laws that go into effect today, according to the Mooresville Tribune. One of those laws is that hospitals or medical offices can’t attempt to bill victims of sexual assault or their insurance companies for forensic medical examinations, leaving it to a special state fund. The law also raises the maximum amounts that the fund will pay for the exams. (Mooresville Tribune)
