Investigation Underway After Missing Mooresville Teen Found Safe

Mooresville teen Selena Cawley has been located and is safe, police said. She was reported missing in August 2020.

MOORESVILLE, NC — An investigation is underway after a Mooresville teen, who was missing for more than five months, was recently located, according to authorities.

"Selena has been located and she is safe," Mooresville Police Department said in a statement Monday. "There are many other agencies involved who have contributed to her safe return and it’s still under investigation."

Selena Cawley, 15, was reported missing Aug. 12, 2020 after she disappeared from her family's home in the Morrison Plantation subdivision. Her father, Brian Cawley, said the last time he saw her was when she was walking the family dogs with a younger sibling, WVEC reported.

"It is believed Selena left on foot in an unknown direction," MPD said at the time of her disappearance.

Following her disappearance, her family offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to her safe return.

"Selena has been found safe! Thank you so much for your love, prayers, support and encouragement," read a post on the "Praying For Selena Cawley" Facebook page dedicated to updates on her case.
