Iredell County Man Fatally Shot In Stateville Home: ICSO
A witness told investigators that the man was shot by a family member as he assaulted his wife, Iredell County Sheriff's Office said.
IREDELL COUNTY, NC — An altercation among family members ended with a death investigation late Thursday night following a deadly shooting in a Statesville home, Iredell County Sheriff's Office said Friday.
The Jan. 7 incident occurred shortly before midnight in the 100 block of Molly Lane in Statesville. According to an ICSO account, an emergency call was placed around 11:55 p.m. alerting authorities that a shooting had occurred in the home.
"When the responding deputies arrived they located a victim who had a gunshot wound to his chest. The victim was transported to a local medical facility where he was pronounced dead," ICSO said.

Witnesses told deputies that the shooting occurred when the victim was assaulting his wife. A family member confronted him, prompting a struggle between the two men. A shot was fired and struck the victim in the chest, ICSO said.
"Evidence gathered at the home, and thorough interviews from witnesses confirmed the initial statement," the sheriff's office said.

ICSO said their investigation results from the scene will be turned over the District Attorney's Office for review to determine if charges will be brought forward.
