Iredell-Statesville Schools Reports Decline In COVID Cases
Last week, at least 154 students and 44 staff in Iredell-Statesville Schools were isolating with symptoms, the school district said.
IREDELL COUNTY, NC — Coronavirus cases dipped last week in Iredell-Statesville Schools, according to school district data. At least 44 positive cases of coronavirus were confirmed in ISS schools last week, down from 51 positive cases reported the week prior.
Of those confirmed cases during the week of Jan. 29 - Feb. 4, at least 25 were students and 19 were ISS staff members.
While the number of positive cases decreased, the school district reported an increase in secondary spread within schools, according to data provided by the school district. At least seven of the 44 positive COVID-19 cases reported last week were a result of secondary spread within a school, three more than the week before.

Community spread of COVID-19 led to 730 students and 108 school district staff members to stay home either with symptoms or in quarantine out of caution between Jan. 29 and Feb. 4, ISS reported Friday.

Of the students reported as out, at least 255 were in quarantine due to a school contact, 321 were in quarantine from a possible community contact, and 154 were isolating with COVID-19 symptoms, ISS said. Overall, there were 278 fewer students reported out of class due to the cautionary measures in comparison to the week prior.
Among staff members, at least 29 were in quarantine due to a school contact, 35 were in quarantine from a possible community contact, and 44 were isolating with COVID-19 symptoms.
As of Feb. 5, at least 105 new cases were reported in the span of a day, increasing the county's tally of known cases to nearly 15,000. At least 46 county residents were hospitalized Friday, and 181 deaths attributed to the virus, according to the Iredell County Health Department.
