Iredell Teacher Charged With Indecent Liberties With A Student
Iredell County Sheriff's Office said the North Iredell High science teacher exchanged sexual messages with a student.

MOORESVILLE, NC — An Iredell County teacher was suspended with pay after he was arrested and charged Wednesday with one felony county of indecent liberties with a student.
According to authorities, the Iredell County Sheriff's Office received a report from a North Iredell High School school resource officer Wednesday that teacher John Dean Woody, 23, of Elkin, North Carolina had communicated inappropriately with a student.
In a statement, Iredell-Statesville Schools said Woody is suspended pending an ICSO investigation. He was hired by the school district in September, and most recently served as a science teacher at North Iredell High School in Olin, ISS said.

After receiving the report Wednesday, ICSO investigators responded to the school, where they spoke with administrators and witnesses.
"During the investigation, detectives gathered information about John Dean Woody, a science teach at North Iredell High School, having exchanged messages with a student," ICSO said. "The messages were sexual in nature."

Woody was arrested and charged with one felony count of indecent liberties with a student. His secured bond was set at $25,000.
