More Than 1K Iredell Students Quarantined, Isolated Due To COVID
Last week, at least 214 students and 34 staff in Iredell-Statesville Schools were isolating with symptoms, the school district said.
IREDELL COUNTY, NC — At least 51 positive cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Iredell-Statesville schools last week, according to the school district. Of those confirmed cases, 39 were students and 12 were ISS staff members.
The tally represents a decrease by five positive COVID-19 cases in comparison to the week before, however it does include a slight rise in secondary spread within schools, according to data provided by the school district. At least four of the 51 positive COVID-19 cases reported last week were a result of secondary spread within a school, one more than the week before.
Community spread of COVID-19 led to 1,008 students and 122 school district staff members to stay home either with symptoms or in quarantine out of caution between Jan. 22 and Jan. 28, ISS reported Jan. 29.

Of the students reported as out, at least 414 were in quarantine due to a school contact, 380 were in quarantine from a possible community contact, and 214 were isolating with COVID-19 symptoms, ISS said.
Among staff members, at least 44 were in quarantine due to a school contact, 46 were in quarantine from a possible community contact, and 32 were isolating with COVID-19 symptoms.

Community spread of the virus continues to surge throughout Iredell County. As of Jan. 29, at least 131 new cases were reported in the span of a day, increasing the county's tally of known cases to 13,912. At least 48 county residents were hospitalized Friday, and 171 deaths attributed to the virus, according to the Iredell County Health Department.
