Here are the top stories today in Mooresville:

  1. Robert Kessler has been named the new campus president of the NASCAR Technical Institute at the Mooresville campus. According to Engine Builder, "Kessler comes to NASCAR Tech with more than a decade of senior leadership experience at UTI. He replaces Jennifer Bergeron, who has served as campus president at NASCAR Tech for 12 years and has left to pursue other opportunities. “I couldn’t be more excited to join Universal Technical Institute’s NASCAR Tech campus, particularly at a time when the organization is growing, diversifying and helping to meet the country’s demand for skilled technicians,” said Kessler. NASCAR Tech currently offers training for automotive and motorsports technicians, CNC machining and welding."(Engine Builder)
  2. Reportedly, a drug deal gone wrong in Mooresville has resulted in three different people facing charges. The Queen City News wrote, a man was shot after threatening two Gastonia men with a knife during a drug deal in Mooresville according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said the investigation began on September 14 after deputies were called to a home on Tennessee Circle in Mooresville for a person with gunshot wounds. When deputies arrived, they said they found 20-year-old Yash Vaidya with gunshot wounds to his leg and arm. Vaidya allegedly told deputies that the shooting had happened at the end of his driveway and that he did not know the shooters, the sheriff’s office said. After an extensive investigation, detectives identified Cecil Tyler Smith of Gastonia and Sage Perry Wright of Cherryville as the two suspects involved in the shooting. After the investigation, all three men were arrested, the sheriff’s office said. (Queen City News)
  3. Is virtual reality the new space for education? According to LaunchCLT, "many people think virtual reality and augmented reality is for gamers, but it's increasingly being used by surgeons, engineers, soldiers, and in a host of other industries. Brett McCall, co-founder of Better than Unicorns, is helping companies use VR to ensure an educated and engaged workforce. Kathleen McIntrye is an educator from Davidson Green School specifically focused on exposing kids to the real natural world. Is one approach better than the other? Is there a place for both? Join us on October 18 as we discuss this emerging technology and how it will shape our lives as part of LaunchCLT's Infinite Possibilities series. (There will be VR demos available from Lobaki and Corvid during the happy hour so arrive early!)." The event will take place Tuesday, October 18, from 5 – 7:30 p.m. at The Charles Mack Citizen Center 215 North Main Street Mooresville. Hope to see you there!(eventbrite.com)
