Nearly 300 Students, 80 Staff In Quarantine In Iredell Schools

At least three students and six school district staff members tested positive for COVID-19 during the first week after the holiday, ISS said

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — Nearly 300 students and 80 school district staff were in quarantine for COVID-19 during the first four days back in school following the winter break, according to Iredell-Statesville Schools.

Between Jan. 4 and Jan. 7, three students and six school district staff members tested positive for COVID-19, the school district said.

At least 293 students were in quarantine from a possible community contact, and 96 were isolating with COVID-19 symptoms the school district said. Due to the school holiday, none of the quarantine cases were considered to be from a school contact.

Before the winter break, more than 600 students were in contact for a possible COVID-19 contact.

Among staff members, 74 are in quarantine from possible coronavirus exposure from a community contact while six are in quarantine from a possible school contact. At least 46 staff members are isolating with symptoms, ISS said.

Community spread of the virus continues to surge throughout Iredell County. Friday, at least 181 new cases were reported, increasing the county's tally of known cases to 10,592. At least 75 county residents were hospitalized Friday, and 124 deaths attributed to the virus, according to the Iredell County Health Department.

The schools reporting positive COVID-19 cases from Jan. 4 - Jan. 7, 2021 include:

  • Coddle Creek Elementary
  • East Iredell Elementary
  • Lakeshore Elementary
  • Troutman Middle School
  • CCTL Early College
  • North Iredell High School
  • South Iredell High School
  • Statesville High School
