Here are the top three stories today in Mooresville:
- Reportedly, Lowe's recently revealed the 100 community-nominated impact projects that have been selected as part of this year's Lowe's Hometowns program, with 2022 serving as the first of a five-year, $100 million commitment to the communities it serves. With projects spanning 40 states and Washington, D.C., Lowe's will help restore and revitalize spaces that serve as the hubs and heartbeats of communities, including neighborhood housing, parks, community centers and much more. The town of Mooresville Parks & Recreation and Public Arts Commission are thrilled to be one of the recipients of this year's 100 #LowesHometowns projects! With this support, Parks & Recreation and the Public Arts Commission plan to add additional public art murals painted by local artists, supporting and beautifying the community. - According to a KFYR article, "while 29-year-old Michael Brandon Shinn was ultimately arrested for two sex crimes police say he committed in North Carolina, police warn that Shinn could have victims nationwide. Officers with the Mooresville Police Department arrested Shinn after receiving reports of two recent rapes in the area. The first alleged rape happened June 16. The victim reported the assault to police a few days later, telling them she met Shinn online and had agreed to meet him. While investigating that alleged crime, the Huntersville Police Department advised Mooresville police that a second victim was hospitalized in Huntersville.
This victim provided a similar description of the suspect and the circumstances of the alleged crime, according to police. The victim said she met Shinn in the same parking lot on June 21, just five days after the first reported rape. Police are asking for more victims to come forward. If you or anyone you know may have been a victim of or had contact with Shinn, you are encouraged to contact Detective Saladino with the Mooresville Police Department at 704-664-3311." (KFYR) - Wait for it! It's here! Porsche Motorsport and Team Penske have once again united. This time, the collaborative effort, known as Porsche Penske Motorsport, created an extraordinary endurance race car, the Porsche 963, which was unveiled Friday at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. According to Car and Driver magazine, "The body of the 963 is reminiscent of the smooth, rounded look of previous Porsche-Team Penske collaborations like the Porsche 962 of the 1980s, but sharper headlights and a rear light bar reminiscent of the current 911s give the 963 a more modern look. The 963 has already seen 4900 test miles and will get a full practice run when it drives non-competitively in the FIA WEC’s 8 Hours of Bahrain in November. After that, Porsche Penske Motorsport will prepare four total cars to be based in Mooresville, North Carolina,ñ and Mannheim, Germany and compete in the IMSA and FIA WEC circuits." (Car and Driver)
