Here are the top stories today in Mooresville:

  1. It's not too late to donate a toy and get a scare! According to the Mooresville Tribune, "The Clarke Plantation Haunted Trail, a homemade scare maze filled with all kinds of themes, scare actors and other spooky things, will [be] open [today], looking to give residents of Mooresville not only a thrill but also a chance to give back to the community. That’s because the 1,700-square-foot maze won’t cost any visitors money at the door. To enter the maze, guests will be required to donate either a $5 to $10 toy, benefiting a local Toys for Tots chapter, or to make a donation of clothes to be given to those suffering from homelessness. “We’re really not looking to make any money off of this,” Charlene Clarke said. “So many people have helped us in our life, so we just really want to be able to give back to the community.” The haunted trail will be open from 7-10 p.m. tonight at 727 Heatherly Road, Mooresville. A scare-free version of the maze will be available to kids from 6-7 p.m. For information, visit facebook.com/events/478372584186691.(Mooresville Tribune)
  2. A senior at Mooresville High School, Drina Shah has been fascinated with space exploration and engineering for a long time. According to SciTech Daily, "Shah, a former NASA virtual intern at the Goddard Space Flight Center, worked during her internship on a project about an Artificial Intelligence based science translator for the spread of hydrological information. NASA’s mission of innovating for the benefit of humanity and inspiring the world through discovery, as well as its core values of safety, integrity, teamwork, excellence, and inclusion inspired Shah to work for NASA. This internship meant the world to her and ended up being the very first job that she has ever had. “It really was a dream come true opportunity for me and I’m sure it will help propel my career and my interest in space, engineering, and artificial intelligence,” Shah said. " Congratulations Drina! Great job! (SciTechDaily)
  3. The Men’s and Women’s High School Cross Country teams competed at Regionals! A Mooresville High School Facebook post had this to say about the event, "It was beautiful weather today to run fast with several Blue Devils running PRs and moving on to the State Championship next weekend! Way to rep the school, community and yourselves with class. We love you! Congrats to Ella Moore, Mariah Knight and Michael Martinez for qualifying for State!" Great job athletes! Today in Mooresville:

  • US Fall Play - Pine Lake Preparatory (12:00 AM)

From my notebook:

  • Mooresville Police Department: "Goblins, ghouls and witches might be creepy, but there’s nothing scarier than an impaired driver getting behind the wheel! That’s why Mooresville Police Department will increase patrols to keep impaired drivers off the roads during the statewide Halloween Booze It & Lose It enforcement campaign. There were more than 250 alcohol-related crashes on N.C. roads during last year’s Halloween Booze It & Lose It enforcement campaign, and 28 people were killed or seriously injured. Stay safe this Halloween, and don't drink and drive!" (Mooresville Police Department via Facebook)
  • Feed NC: "Do enjoy turkey or ham on Thanksgiving? Whatever your preference may be, help a family in need enjoy that same meal by making a festive donation of ham, turkey, or side items! Feed NC is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m." (Feed NC via Facebook)
