Here are the top four stories in Mooresville today:

  1. Matthew Dean, Mooresville, NC, North Carolina State University, Aidan Kennedy, Mooresville, NC, Catawba College, Anthony Quartetti, Mooresville, NC, Anderson University, Jackson Ward, Mooresville, NC, Clemson University, were all among the recipients of the Autobell® Car Wash 2022 Academic Scholarships, according to Yes! Weekly. "For the 2022-23 academic year, AutobellCar Wash awarded scholarships totaling $158,250 to assist with college tuition to 84 team members in the Carolinas, Georgia, Maryland, and Virginia. 2. Looking to add a fluffy ball of four-legged love and affection to your family and have a positive impact on the Mooresville community at the same time? Adopt a pet from a local shelter or organization! Many animal shelters are still working to fulfill adoptions.
Over 6 million pets and other companion animals are surrendered or taken in each year by adoption facilities nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. However, only around half of all shelter pets are adopted each year, according to ASPCA data. For those looking to adopt, a great place to begin the search for your new friend is at Piedmont Animal Rescue, where Tayloor the cat is waiting patiently, or another local rescue center. If you aren't sure if you have time to take care of a pet year round, many shelters also offer opportunities to foster pets until they are placed in permanent homes. (Mooresville Patch)
  3. Congratulations to Athlete of the Week, Ella Claire Goins! According to a Mooresville High School tweet, "Randy Marion graciously sponsors our Athlete of the Week, and Mr. Goins presents it to a deserving athlete. Ella Claire is on our MHS tennis team. Congratulations Ella! (Mooresville High School via Twitter)
  4. According to the Mooresville Tribune, "nearly 300 people joined the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s — Iredell County in the fight to end the disease at Bellingham Park in Mooresville on Sept. 24. Participants surpassed their goal of $28,000 with more than $33,000 raised to fund Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs.
“Congratulations and a big thanks to our dedicated walk participants, volunteers, sponsors, staff and the Iredell County community for coming together to take steps for all those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and all other dementia,” said Katherine L. Lambert, CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association — Western Carolina Chapter. Team Dyan (Di) was the top fundraising team at this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising more than $4,700. The other top fundraising teams include The McIntosh Law Firm ($3,493) and Edward Jones – Region 244 – Iredell County ($2,858)." Great job everyone! (Mooresville Tribune)
