- It's the Fourth of July weekend and people like to party. However, do it responsibly please! Impaired driving is a major cause of injuries and deaths on North Carolina roadways and waterways. In 2021, alcohol impairment was a contributing factor in over 20 percent of all fatal crashes. On the water, alcohol has been the leading contributing factor in recreational boating deaths and a major factor in incidents on the water. In an effort to help keep area residents safe The NC State Highway Patrol, NC Wildlife Resources Commission, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and Mooresville Police Department are joining forces in patrolling the Lake Norman area highways and waterways over the holiday weekend, focusing on impaired driving and impaired boating violations. Stay safe this holiday weekend! Don’t drink and drive on roadways or waterways! (Mooresville Police Department via Facebook)
