- Get ready for a celebration! According to Iredell Free News, "on Tuesday, October 4, in front of the Charles Mack Citizens Center in downtown Mooresville, IndyCar Champion Rick Mears and Top Fuel Drag Car sensation Doug Herbert will be honored with the dedication of North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame, Walk of Fame sidewalk plaques. “This year’s celebration is going to be very special,” said Don Miller, chairman of the Board of Directors at the NC Auto Racing Hall of Fame. “We will be celebrating our 28th year of honoring the finest drivers in all of motorsports and the Walk of Fame expands its role for the 13th year." See you there! (Iredell Free News)
- Health officials are urging Americans to get this year's flu vaccinations and COVID-19 booster shots at the same time. According to the Mooresville Tribune, '"right where we are now — that's a good time to be vaccinated," influenza expert Dr. Lisa Grohskopf of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told the nation's physicians in a conference call late last week. That's ahead of time, by traditional measures. Flu season most often peaks in February, and our levels of protective antibodies are at their highest about two weeks after the shot, then wane over the next four to six months. Yet this year's season could start early if it follows the pattern seen elsewhere in the world. So a delay could catch people unprepared." (Mooresville Tribune)
- On September 24 on Hiddenite Church Road in Alexander County the 41st annual Hiddenite Celebration of the Arts will be held. According to the Mooreville Tribune, "headlining on the Gazebo Stage on The Lucas Mansion lawn during celebration is talented vocalist and pianist Ulysses Long. His onstage performance is set to take place from 3-4 p.m. Long is an Iredell County native who performed on “America’s Got Talent” in 2012 and made it to the quarterfinals with a strong performance of him singing “Secret Agent Man.” [In addition,] the celebration will feature many things to enjoy including The FolkLife Pavilion at the circa 1900 log corn crib and log cabin with folklife and folk arts demonstrations presented throughout the day. The Children’s Art In Action area located on the lawn beside the mansion will feature the App State GeoBago and Art Bus with make-and-take crafts and hands-on activities." Hope to see you there!
