• Chemical company pleads guilty to dumping pollutants in Cape Fear River (wect.com) — A Navassa-based chemical company, American Distillation Inc., has pleaded guilty to repeatedly dumping polluted wastewater into the Cape Fear River, a vital waterway for nearby communities. Federal prosecutors say managers knowingly released thousands of gallons several times a year to cut costs, and both the company and its owner now face criminal accountability for endangering local ecosystems and public health.
   

• ‘Make it happen': Leland town council calls for resolution on overcrowded post office (wect.com) — Leland officials are drafting a resolution asking federal and regional leaders, including nearby towns like Navassa, to help fix overcrowding and staffing problems at the Leland post office. If approved Thursday evening, the resolution will go to the postmaster general, Congressman David Rouzer, and neighboring municipalities, signaling growing regional concern about mail service as holiday demand surges.
