• FEMA allocates $3.4M to rebuild Avery County Senior Center (wsoctv.com) — Newland-area seniors could soon see a rebuilt Avery County Senior Center, thanks to $3.4 million in FEMA funding that will also help waterproof damaged county offices. The center, now operating from a restaurant near Elk Park, serves over a thousand people a year with meals, health programs, and vital support services. County leaders are still seeking another $5 million and have not set a construction timeline.
