After years of relying on a private range near Dunn, the upgraded facility now supports shotgun, rifle, handgun, and muzzleloader practice, giving local youth more flexible training time for tournaments.
   

• Local man arrested on possession, abetting, open container charges (johnstoniannews.com) — Smithfield police recently arrested a local man on Crescent Drive on felony drug possession and related misdemeanor charges, according to a magistrate’s order. Officers allege he possessed methamphetamine, aided an impaired driver, and had an open container in the vehicle; he received a secured bond and a probable cause hearing is scheduled for December 18.
   

• Mortgage Wire Fraud Scam Targets Local Woman (jocoreport.com) — A Smithfield-based warning follows a Johnston County homebuyer who lost over $130,000 after a hacker hijacked a real estate attorney’s email and sent fake wire instructions. Authorities are trying to recover the funds and urge residents to verify any last-minute wiring changes directly with lenders or attorneys using trusted contact information, not just email.
