• Firefighters battle Whispering Pines barn fire in freezing temperatures (sandhillssentinel.com) — Southern Pines Fire and Rescue joined multiple departments battling a major barn fire on Niagara Carthage Road in nearby Whispering Pines early Monday, working in single-digit wind chills. Crews kept the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings despite icy roads and freezing equipment, and no animals were inside. The fire’s cause remains under investigation by the Moore County Fire Marshal.
