• Margie Staton Smith - The Tryon Daily Bulletin (tryondailybulletin.com) — Friends and neighbors in the Tryon-Saluda area are mourning the passing of 89-year-old Margie Staton Smith, remembered for her deep faith, long marriage, and love for her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held Sunday at Mountain Page Baptist Church Cemetery in Saluda, and McFarland Funeral Home in Tryon is handling arrangements and online condolences.
   

• Nina Simone's Childhood Home Restored by Action Fund (saobserver.com) — Nina Simone’s childhood home in Tryon has been fully restored, preserving an intimate piece of the town’s and America’s cultural history. Led by the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund with support from artists and donors, the modest house was saved from demolition and carefully preserved. Public visits are expected to begin in 2027 after the next project phase.
