  1. Local leaders, including New Hanover County Commissioner Rob Zapple and Wilmington City Councilman Kevin Spears, addressed questions from the public regarding affordable housing during a forum on Saturday. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss various topics related to affordable housing, including homelessness, gentrification, and rising rent prices. The organizers hope to continue the conversation and advocate for change at the state and local levels to better support renters and homeowners in the Wilmington community. (WECT)
  2. The "Raise A Racquet Against Domestic Violence" charity tennis tournament took place over the weekend at the Holly Tree Racquet Club. The event was held in memory of MaryAnn Breault, who was fatally shot by her husband at the racquet club in December 2021. All proceeds from the tournament were donated to Wilmington's local Domestic Violence Shelter and Services. (WECT)
  3. A railroad police officer murdered a century ago will be honored at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in D.C., thanks to research conducted by the Wilmington Railroad Museum. William C. Callihan, who was a police officer for the Wilmington-based Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, is already honored on law enforcement memorials in Raleigh and Cumberland County for his service as a deputy sheriff. Christine Williams, a museum volunteer, discovered that Callihan's name was missing from the memorial during her research on railroad police for an upcoming exhibit. (StarNewsOnline.com)
