π± Cyclist Found Unresponsive During Recent Race + Shooting Near UNCSA

- Tragedy struck the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic on Saturday, Jul. 5 when one cyclist was found unresponsive during the race. Around 10:30 a.m., an officer with the Winston-Salem Police Department discovered the cyclist on the 2200 block of Union Cross Road. There were already medical personnel providing first aid to the cyclist, but they were unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene. According to a statement from the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic, the cyclist "experienced a medical emergency." No other information is available at this time. (Fox 8)
- The Winston-Salem Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred near the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. The incident took place on Saturday, Jul. 5 near Waughtown Street, and police reported that one person was injured. According to a statement from the university, there were no students or employees known to be involved. (WXII 12)
- On Saturday, Jul. 5, the Winston-Salem Fire Department responded to an incident at an assisted living facility. The department reported that there was a cooking-related fire in the facility's kitchen. Firefighters were able to contain the fire, and there were no reported injuries. No residents at the facility have been displaced as a result of the incident. (WXII 12)
