Here are the top three stories today in Winston-Salem:

  1. This past weekend the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office held job fairs for those interested in becoming a detention officer at the detention center. The sheriff's office held one on Friday and on Saturday morning to give those interested more knowledge on what the role would entail as well as show them where they would be working. Being a detention officer comes with many benefits, including a $5,000 sign-on bonus currently. There are a lot of vacancies in law enforcement at this time, if you are interested in serving the community, you can apply here. (WXII12 Winston-Salem)
  2. This past Saturday on Earth Day, the Piedmont Land Conservancy held an opening ceremony for the Stuart & Emma Thomas Memorial Trail. The trail is named after the two individuals who were lost in an accident about 10 years ago; Stuart's widow worked with the community and raised the funds to have this created on the somewhat famous property right off of Reynolds Road. With the incredible view of downtown Winston-Salem, it is expected to be a big hit for residents and visitors alike. (WXII12 Winston-Salem)
  3. On Thursday, Apr. 20, a man and two teenagers from Winston-Salem were taken into custody for multiple charges following a police chase. At around 4:30 p.m., the Winston-Salem Police Department's Gang Unit worked with the Juvenile Intervention and Investigation Team to initiate a traffic stop when the driver refused to stop the vehicle and a chase ensued. Two of the passengers in the chase attempted to flee on foot but were eventually captured, the driver was also eventually caught. The three were all taken into custody and are being held on multiple counts; one individual has a count of felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction. (WGHP FOX8 Greensboro)
