- Today, Sep. 19, flags across the state will be flown at half-staff in honor of Forsyth County Deputy Auston Smith Reudelhuber, who died in the line of duty earlier this month. Reudelhuber was killed on Sep. 9 when his patrol car collided head-on with a box truck. The box truck's driver is facing multiple charges, including misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving left of center. A former colleague of Reudelhuber's described him as a dedicated law enforcement officer and a "friend to all." (My Fox 8)
- In case you missed it, a man who was imprisoned for 20 years in connection with the Silk Plant Forest case was found dead in Winston-Salem. During his years in prison, Kalvin Michael Smith, 52, maintained his innocence before being released in 2016 when a judge ruled that evidence had not been submitted during his trial. On Friday, Sep. 15, the Winston-Salem Police Department confirmed at a press conference that Smith was found dead earlier in the week on Charleston Court. Investigators do not suspect foul play, and the cause of death has not been announced. (My Fox 8)
- The Winston-Salem Symphony is getting ready to debut its 76th season with Michelle Merrill, the symphony's first female Music Director. The symphony's season opens this weekend, with a musical theme of "Bernstein and Brahms" that explores famous works from the two composers. Merrill described the performances, which will take place at the RJ Reynolds Auditorium, as featuring timeless and fun musical selections that audiences are sure to enjoy.
