- Winston-Salem police are currently investigating the death of a woman who was allegedly shot and killed by her son. On arrival at the 1100 block of Burke Village Lane, first responders found Sharon Ross, 55, dead in her home from a gunshot wound, leading to the arrival of WSPD Criminal Investigations Division personnel who took over the crime scene. According to authorities, Ross and her son, Joshua Isiah Ross, 21, had an altercation over a firearm, and that altercation ended in the younger Ross shooting and killing his mother in the home the two shared. - As of the morning of Sunday, Jul. 2, South Glenn Avenue is closed after a crash that caused a power outage on the street. Police say that all lanes of the 300 block of South Glenn and Hope Lane will be closed as the crash is under investigation and crews work on repairing the damage to infrastructure that caused the outage. Drivers are asked to use alternate routes and to comply with the directions of all police and traffic-flagging personnel until further notice. (WFMYNews2.com)
- Locals are noticing and enjoying the work done on Quarry at Grant Park, a local project made possible by the approval of bond funds in 2014 and more recently completed and opened to the public in 2017. The Quarry park is named for Tim Grant, longtime recreation and parks director. According to local mother Brittany Nethercott, "It really is a hidden gem." (Statesville Record & Landmark)
