- Winston-Salem Police have arrested a man who is accused of robbing two banks. Jason Allen Mabe, 40, has been arrested following robberies on Tuesday, Aug. 15 at the State Employees Credit Union and on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at Piedmont Federal Savings Bank. Investigators said that there was not a weapon shown in either robbery, but the suspect instead demanded money with a note. Mabe has been charged with common law robbery and is being held with a $50,000 bond. (WFMY)
- Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools announced changes to bus routes to account for driver shortages. Some bus routes have been combined, although the district says to expect delays of at least 15 minutes. The changes in bus routes brought the needed number of bus drivers down to 52 from 57. (WFMY)
- Parents sat down with local education leaders at the Forsyth County Central Library for a round-table discussion on Senate Bill 49, also known as the "Parent's Bill of Rights," which was passed into law last week by the North Carolina General Assembly. The legislation requires educators to let parents know if their child asks to use a different name or pronoun in class. Attendees expressed frustration that the new law could damage trust between children and teachers and frustration at the lack of guidance teachers have received from administrators. Board of Education Member Richard Watts explained that the district is creating a plan, although it will not be ready by the start of school on Aug. 28. (WFDD)
