Here are the top three stories in Winston-Salem today:
- Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) and the School of Filmmaking at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts have partnered to bring virtual reality (VR) to the clinical training curriculum for nursing students, making WSSU the first Historically Black College and University in North Carolina to use VR in the clinical training curriculum for nursing students. The initiative, funded by the North Carolina Collaboratory, aims to address the national nursing shortage by offering students early access to clinical environments through simulated real-world experiences. The program is receiving attention from educational nursing programs across the United States, and there is interest in deploying the platform to nursing programs nationwide. (WXII12 Winston-Salem)
- A woman was injured in her apartment by a stray projectile in Winston-Salem, leading to an ongoing police investigation. The incident occurred on Brandemere Court at 10:11 p.m. on Monday, and the 22-year-old victim was transported to the hospital by a friend before the police arrived. The victim is reportedly in stable condition with a lower extremity injury. (Erie News Now)
- The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced changes in its appointment scheduling, walk-in availability, and office hours to improve services at its locations across the state. Starting this week, all customer services will be provided on a walk-in basis in the afternoon, while appointments can only be scheduled until 11 a.m. The DMV is also opening five locations an hour earlier to provide more services and will introduce a new feature on its website that shows the current estimated wait time at different locations.
