Here are the top three stories today in Winston-Salem:
- Jessica Clifton, an assistant nurse manager at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, was chosen as a 2023 Triad Nurse of Distinction community favorite. She is passionate about nursing, enjoys the fast pace of the emergency department, and finds it rewarding to make a difference in people's lives. With 17 years of experience in the field, Jessica Clifton's dedication, knowledge, and compassionate care contribute to her ability to manage operations in a Level 1 Trauma Center environment. - A fire caused by a tree at Minerals Springs Elementary School in Winston-Salem was quickly extinguished by the fire department with no reported injuries. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at the school's playground on Ogburn Avenue. Fire crews arrived at the scene and contained the fire within two minutes. (WXII12 Winston-Salem)
- A Winston-Salem man has been charged after shooting into a car with a woman inside. The incident occurred on May 1, and the suspect, identified as Krisean Leggette, fled the scene before the police arrived. After an investigation, Leggette was taken into custody on May 5, and a search warrant executed at his residence resulted in the seizure of drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a stolen handgun. Leggette is facing multiple charges, including possession of a stolen firearm and discharging firearms into an occupied vehicle. (WFMYNews2.com)

- Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance revealed the final show of the 2023-2024 season lineup: "Jersey Boys," a musical depicting the rise of The Four Seasons from humble beginnings to international stardom. - The Forsyth Humane Society's Mutt Strut, sponsored by Bob King Automotive Group, successfully raised $57,000 through the participation of over 390 runners and 200 dogs over the weekend. The funds will support initiatives that help people and pets stay together, reduce shelter intake, serve more pets in the community, and promote the well-being of companionship β making the organization grateful for everyone's support.
