🌱 One Man Charged For Shooting Teen + WS/FCS Staff Shortages

  1. Winston-Salem police have charged one man in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old. James Miller, 58, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. The shooting incident occurred on Tuesday, Aug. 8 just after 11:30 p.m. at an apartment complex on Villa Club Drive. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a 16-year-old male with a gunshot wound. According to investigators, the shooting was the result of an argument between the juvenile and the suspect.   2. Winston Salem/Forsyth County Schools has addressed staff shortages as students head back to their classrooms. According to Interim Chief Human Resources Officer Alexandra Hoskins, there are currently around 200 vacancies across classroom personnel, which is down from 360 vacancies in the previous year. Vacancies for kitchen assistants are also down this year to 34 from 133 openings in 2022. However, bus driver vacancies have increased from 57 to 68, and board members expressed concern about driver shortages. (WXII 12)
  3. Winston-Salem Senior Services has been supporting senior citizens in the community since 1962, and it will soon be expanding its reach with the new Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness set to open later this year. Winston-Salem Senior Services currently runs a Meals on Wheels program that serves more than 1100 residents with meals packed and delivered by volunteers. The organization also operates the Williams Adult Day Care Center, which offers board games, chair yoga, music, and space for older adults to socialize. There will be an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new wellness center on Nov. 17. (Fox 8)
