Marie Moore Copeland (harrodsburgherald.com) — An 85-year-old Arbor Acres resident who made Winston-Salem her home for the past two years has died, with a celebration of life planned in Lexington, Kentucky next spring. Her obituary recalls decades of civic involvement in Kentucky, her career in landscape architecture and real estate, and her deep devotion to family, including children and grandchildren now living in North Carolina and Georgia.

A plate full of memories: the enduring legacy of K&W cafeterias (nsjonline.com) — K&W Cafeterias, founded in Winston-Salem in 1937, has permanently closed all remaining locations as of December 1, ending an 88-year Southern comfort-food tradition. Detection of Paraburkholderia in Clinical Specimens Associated with Use of Nonsterile Ultrasound Gel for Percutaneous Procedures — United States, Canada, and Israel, May 2023⎯April 2025 (cdc.gov) — Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem is among several institutions involved in uncovering contaminated nonsterile ultrasound gel that spread a rare Paraburkholderia strain across multiple countries. Investigators linked at least 42 clinical specimens to gel used during blood draws and other percutaneous procedures, prompting CDC and health agencies to reiterate that only sterile gel should be used whenever the skin is breached.
5. Stein restores Medicaid rates amid budget shortfall, urges legislature to act (northcarolinahealthnews.org) — North Carolina’s governor has restored Medicaid reimbursement rates after court challenges, easing immediate pressure on providers and patients while a $319 million budget gap remains unresolved. The decision drew relief from leaders including Rep. Donny Lambeth of Winston-Salem, but lawmakers still must hash out a long-delayed state budget that will determine Medicaid’s long-term stability for more than 3 million residents.
