Here are the top three stories today in Winston-Salem:

  1. After a shooting incident in Winston-Salem, neighbors are calling for an end to the violence following the injury of a 7-year-old child. The incident occurred on East 24th Street in the early hours of Wednesday. The community members expressed their concerns about safety and emphasized the importance of addressing the issue starting from home and school, urging unity and collaboration to combat the problem. (WXII12 Winston-Salem)
  2. Winston-Salem's Downtown Arts District will feature a rainbow mural on one of its crosswalks in celebration of Pride Month. The installation, scheduled for mid-June, will involve power washing the street beforehand, with the city's Human Relations/Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Department and volunteers responsible for its upkeep. The mural, recommended by an ad hoc subcommittee, aims to symbolize support for the LGBTQIA+ community and will be accompanied by the Pride Winston-Salem Festival, featuring a parade and various activities, starting on Jun. 24. (Triad City Beat)
  3. The Activate Entertainment Project and the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County are presenting "Surface Tension," a contemporary circus performance that combines juggling, acrobatics, and dance to explore human emotions. Taking place at the Reynolds Place Theatre on Jun. 3, the show follows the story of two friends and their evolving relationship, enhanced by handheld lights and props. With audience seating directly on the stage, the immersive experience aims to create a strong connection between performers and viewers. Tickets are available for purchase on Activate Entertainment's website. (Yes! Weekly)

  • The Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance (TA) is partnering with Pflag Winston-Salem on Sunday, Jun. 11 to bring guest speaker Zander Moricz to the TA stage.
