Here are the top three stories today in Winston-Salem:
- Nearby High Point will be hosting the Triad's first Tesla dealership β although it's unclear when construction will begin. The High Point City Council has approved a zoning request for the dealership, and city leaders expect that it will be located on the repurposed site of a retail development on High Point's North Main Street. WFMY News claimed that the new facility's primary purpose will be to service existing vehicles and deliver new purchases to customers. (WFMYNews2.com)
- The North Carolina House is advancing a bill that will create review boards for municipal employees of both Winston-Salem and Greensboro, including police officers, firefighters, and paramedics. The bill has moved to a vote on the House floor. House Bill 470 would amend city charters and create five-person boards whose decisions would take priority on issues previously handled by city human resource departments and city managers. If approved by the House, the controversial bill would be sent on to the Senate. Unlike other proposed laws, because the bill affects local issues, it is not subject to Gov. Roy Cooper's veto. - Marshall USA LLC's aerospace division will be opening a major aircraft maintenance center at Piedmont Triad International Airport, announced on Tuesday, Apr. 25, by Gov. Roy Cooper. The company plans to invest $50 million in the new Guilford County facility, which is projected to create 240 jobs. The installation will primarily serve military aircraft. (WXII12 Winston-Salem)
