Here are the top three stories in Winston-Salem today:
- A Winston-Salem family was relieved after a Tennessee state trooper found their loved one, Julian Papp β who has dementia and Alzheimer's β after he went missing. Papp had driven for about four hours from Winston-Salem to Knoxville before being found by Sgt. Michael Turley, who went above and beyond to help the stranger. Turley bought Papp a meal at Waffle House and kept him company until his family arrived. (WXII12 Winston-Salem)
- Winston-Salem officials announced a portion of Bethabara Road will be closed for at least a year for repairs. The closure, which began on Apr. 27, is due to a failing 15-foot culvert that carries Monarcas Creek under the road and will affect the stretch of road between Old Town Road and Edgebrook Drive. Detours will be posted, with staggered Type III barricades allowing for access to residential roads from Hickory Glen Road and Edgebrook Drive. (WFMYNews2.com)
- In nearby High Point, The High Point Transit System announced it's reducing its bus service on all routes yesterday and today due to a severe shortage of drivers. The department stated that the changes would go into effect from 5:35 a.m. until 6:15 p.m. Angela Wynes, the transit system manager, stated they need 16 drivers to operate at full capacity, but currently, they only have nine.
