- The Winston-Salem Transit Authority is addressing safety concerns at the Clark Campbell Transportation Center following reports of uncomfortable and unsafe situations. Proposed safety revisions, including the installation of metal detectors, granting security personnel arrest authority, and implementing a new code of conduct, were presented during a recent meeting. The proposals will undergo approval processes by the Transit Authority Board and City Council, with the installation of safety features anticipated to begin in the fall of 2023 if approved. (Fox 8)
- A carjacking incident occurred in Winston-Salem when two masked and armed men approached Anna Castro-Amaya in a parking lot near her home. They threatened her with a gun and demanded her to exit the vehicle. Castro-Amaya captured a video of the suspects fleeing in her stolen 2012 purple Nissan Rogue, and she emphasized the need for increased police presence at night for community safety. The Winston-Salem Police are seeking information from the public regarding the incident and the whereabouts of the stolen vehicle. (Queen City News)
- Kenneth Cox, the man charged with felony concealment of human remains in connection to the 2019 murder of Aaron Wood in Winston-Salem, appeared in court and requested a lower bond, which was denied. The remains believed to be Wood's were found on a farm on Everidge Road after a five-day investigation. The Chief of Police and District Attorney stated that the current owners of the property were not involved in Wood's disappearance, and the investigation's completion status has not been disclosed.
